New and Exciting

I will soon be posting images form my Product Styling class! I'm so excited about this course because it will teach me how to style fashion accessories and I can learn ways of styling jewelry that will benefit my personal work.

Fashion Jewelry Final

For my Fashion Jewelry class's final we had to either make shoulder pieces or head pieces. I decided to make three hats inspired by newspaper hats. I wanted a vintage vibe to these pieces and used copper that I etched with articles about Boy Scouts. I used patina on the copper and gel medium transferred articles on the inside of the Party Hat and Classic Boat Shaped Hat. I used gel medium transfer of Archie comics and frosted vellum and copper for the Dunce Cap.

Casting Final

This here is my Casting final. I made 60 bronze larva and 15 bronze moths. I bought a vintage cranberry shipping crate from Argentina and hung seven mason jars with drops lights in them from the shipping crate. The seven light cords are wired so they become one cord and only one outlet is needed. I am so thrilled with how this turned out, I didn't have to compromise on my idea and love the overall mood of this piece.

Bronze Larvae

CASTING!!!! This class is the BEST. I am working on a mason jar drop light chandelier installation piece for my final and these larva will be inside of the mason jars along with cast moths and beetles. I hand made 4 larva from dark brown wax and then made RTV molds of them that way I could use the wax injector and make a ton of them. Sadly, one of my flasks last night wasn't able to vacuum so I wasn't able to cast it but it's not a big deal since I have mold of these so making another tree to cast didn't take too long.

Raku

This weekend my Ceramics 1 class went to our school's foundry to do a process called Raku. I used specific glazes for this geode that work with Raku and then placed my piece (along with the classes) in an outside propane gassed kiln and let it sit in there for an hour and a half, then pulled it out wear this gorgeous outfit! I also have 30 small crystal forms I made for that go inside of this geode bowl but I will fire those normally using normal glazes.
